Gold First Aid & Outdoor Activity Residential

The DofE residential is completed as part of the Gold Award and should be an exciting opportunity, away from home and sharing in an activity with people you haven’t met before. Click here to find out more about the residential section.

This residential is a combination of gaining a nationally recognised 2 day first aid outdoor qualification as well as enjoying a variety of outdoor activities.

Accommodation:

The February residential is based at Bell Heath outdoor centre in a beautiful area of North Worcestershire and then in August in an outdoor centre, situated in the picturesque village of Hope in the Peak District . Sleeping arrangements will be in single sex dorms; you will need to provide your own bedding. All of the meals are freshly prepared every day and will be eaten together in a comfortable dining room. All outdoor and first aid equipment will be provided and there is a room for wet and muddy kit.

First Aid sessions:

Over the course of the 5 days you will spend 16 hours gaining your Outdoor First Aid certificate. Topics include: roles & responsibilities, dealing with collapse (with and without breathing), choking, bleeding, shock, major illnesses, torso and limb injuries, environmental effects, heat and cold injuries, using first aid kit, outdoor specific scenarios and outdoor incident management, answering queries such as when or how to remove boots, helmets and looking after a casualty for some hours.

Outdoor activities:

You will also do a combination of outdoor activities in either a morning and afternoon session. During February these may include archery, climbing wall, zip-wire, bushcraft and high ropes and in August bushcraft, walking and mountain biking. All equipment is provided for you and the aim is to just have fun and get a break together.

Evening activities:

During the evening there may be team challenges, games, presentations, talks by invited speakers and the opportunity for quiet time/reading/study.
