Introduction to trail running in the Peak District

Feel like you’d like to take your running off the roads and confines of urban running? Trail running allows you the opportunity to explore beautiful areas and gain all the benefits of feeling inspired and uplifted from being in nature and surrounded by amazing landscapes. Whatever the weather, feeling surrounded by hills, woods, trails and moors is always special and you’ll find this alternative to road running addictive and far more pleasurable.

Andy has been running in the Peak District for many years and his knowledge and experience of the area is extensive. Over the course of this one day course you will cover some basic navigation, weather, clothing & kit plus running technique. You will need to be able to currently run for a minimum of 10 km on roads.

Starting point:  Fairholmes car park, Bamford Hope Valley S33 0AQ (parking charges apply, toilets are open)

Times: 9am-1.30pm

Group size: 4-8

Cost: £25.00 per person plus VAT (£30)


Basic outline of the day:

Meet and introduction to the day.

Discussion about footwear and clothing.

Intro to map and compass.

Head off on the trails, looking at running techniques, pace, navigating on the move, nutrition and hydration.


You will need:

A small rucksack that you can wear whilst running that contains: water, snack, waterproof jacket and extra layer

Trainers will a good sole (preferably trail running trainers)

Suitable running kit

Full change of clothes for the end plus packed lunch

Money for cake and hot drinks at local cafe at the end of the day
